  • RECOMMENDATION:

Whereas Canada has seen dramatic increases in hate-motivated incidents and hate crimes against Indigenous, Asian, Black, Jewish, Sikh, Muslim and other Canadians; and

Whereas the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) passed a resolution in June 2021 that hate speech has no place in an inclusive society and resolved that FCM work with all orders of government in addressing the root causes of hate speech; and

Whereas everyone is guaranteed equality rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which is embedded in Canada’s constitution; and

Whereas the City of Prince George is established and continued by the will of the citizens of Prince George; and the citizens of Prince George embrace and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion; and

Whereas confronting and removing barriers caused by racism benefits all our citizens; and

Whereas the Council of the City of Prince George recognizes our responsibility to meaningfully respond to the impacts of hate and racism in our city,

    Therefore be it resolved:

    1. that the City of Prince George condemns hate and racism in all its forms; and
