COMMENCEMENT

RECOMMENDATION:
That the agenda for the October 2, 2024 Advisory Committee on Bear Awareness meeting, BE ADOPTED.

RECOMMENDATION:
That the minutes of the Advisory Committee on Bear Awareness meeting held September 18, 2024 be adopted as read on this day and that such minutes as read set out all the business before the committee at that meeting and fully and properly record all of the resolutions passed by the committee at that meeting.

RECOMMENDATION #1:
That the Advisory Committee on Bear Awareness RECOMMENDS that Council DIRECT Administration to include educational materials on bear safety with the City’s utility bills for the spring and fall billing cycles including information topics such as:
1. How to secure garbage and compost;
2. What to do if a bear is spotted;
3. A reminder that we can coexist with wildlife and when is the right time to call for help; and
4. A reminder of existing bylaws regarding waste management and wildlife attractants.
RECOMMENDATION #2:
That the Advisory Committee on Bear Awareness RECOMMENDS that Council DIRECT Administration to continue incorporating bear awareness information on the garbage collection schedule distributed to residents on the Garbage Collection Schedule.
